Overview of the role:

Brookes Film students in their second year were invited to apply for a paid year-long placement at Gower Street, who provide research services and data for the film distribution and exhibition sectors in the UK.

What did Lora do during the placement?

The successful applicant, Lora Bogdanova, took a year out of her studies in 2019-20 to work full time at the Gower Street offices in London. Lora was given training in box office research and data analysis and eventually took on responsibility for the region of Spain in their international market. 

How did the placement come about? 

The placement was the result of a long-standing relationship between the Brookes Film department and Universal Studios in London. CEO of Gower Street, Dimitrios Mitsinikos, was previously employed at Universal but left to set up his own company in 2015. Two senior employees of the company, Ellie Bush and Delphine Lievens, are both graduates of Brookes Film.

1 – Attending the BFI London Film Festival on behalf of Gower Street.

2 – Social events and well-being initiatives.

3 – Being offered a permanent part-time role with the company.

What feedback did you get from the partner you worked with – what impact has it had on their business or practice?

Lora was a valued addition to the team, as evidenced by her continued working relationship with the company. Gower Street believes in giving opportunities to film students as they have specific knowledge and skills which are of real benefit to their working practices.

Any future collaborations with this partner or how has this then benefitted the students?

Gower Street are currently reviewing internships due to the Covid-19 pandemic. Lora is still employed as a Box Office analyst with the company.

What feedback did you receive from the students?

Lora’s work placement logbook is clear evidence of her whole-hearted engagement with the placement and the company’s positive working environment.
