Placement Job Title:
Media Marketing Intern

Company name and location:
Landgraf Group, Germany

How did you secure your Placement?

I applied officially with my CV and Cover Letter after I saw a post about them looking for a new Media Marketing person.

Overview of the role:

I was the only person in charge of Media management. I would go into the office every day during the week, usually, I would get several tasks for one week which I could work on in my own time. After the first drafts, we had meetings to see if my designs matched my boss’ needs and imagination.

I was surprised by the amount of Graphic Design work I had to do, the Social media aspect was still important but that wasn’t what took most of my time. The company got several sections next to Motorsport, one of which was Yachting and Logistics. For those, I had to compose brochures, leaflets, online ads and much more. Sometimes even little things popped up such as the new design of a sign for trucks after the old one was damaged by a storm. It is super interesting how much work is behind a logistics company and how much you have to consider. I was also supporting my colleagues with the fan post for motorsport and had to cut several videos. When I was with the Team at the racetrack, my main work was photography and content development for the social media accounts as well as small InDesign works such as composing the menu.

Top three highlights of your Placement?

  1. Being at the race track and seeing the team and the cars in action.

  2. Being able to work with a professional camera and drone for video cuts and photography.

  3. Having a lovely team made me feel welcome and showed me around the company (every single hall of the logistics company!)

What was the most surprising thing about your experience?

I expected a supervisor or someone who is working in my field at the company, because I thought as a student I am nowhere near matching their expectations. But my skills and their instructions were all we needed to achieve high-quality work. I am still proud of all the graphic design I did for them without being a graphic designer. I learned a lot and the saying “learning by doing” was never more true for me.

How beneficial was your experience and how might it help you in the future?

I benefit 100% from this experience. It let me understand company structure, motorsport in action as well as office work. I had a typical 9-5 job, a job I thought I would never survive in. But I did, and in the end, I didn’t even want to leave. I am usually the kind of person who is not able to do the same things every day so I thought 9-5 isn’t suitable for me. But I was wrong, 9-5 is totally fine as long as the work itself is not the same. Especially during the race weekends as my weekly structure was more exciting and mixed up. At a race weekend you would never just work 9-5, it is incredible how much work it is to be part of a race.

What advice would you give to a student in this position?

I would advise everyone to believe more in their skills and their expertise. My course taught me more than I realised. As well as to always stay calm and listen to what they expect, better to ask if you are not 100% sure. Everyone understands if you are new to something and might have some extra questions.
