‘Talk Creative’ – Pricing Your Worth

In November 2022, we held our first ‘Talk Creative’ event as part of Oxford Brookes’ Thrive Festival. We invited an experienced group of professionals to discuss the complexities of knowing what to charge clients for creative work. The panel included Helen Slater Stokes – Glass Artist, Alec Dudson – founder of ‘Intern’ and was hosted by Lucy Turner and Lucy Phillips from Brookes Creative with Student Assistant, Alamelu. We talked about the different pricing models, challenges to be aware of and lots of helpful tips and advice for students and early-career creative freelancers.

Alec Dudson is the Founder of Intern, a platform that empowers emerging creatives to build their dream careers. He’s on a mission to make the creative industries more representative and believes that eradicating unpaid and underpaid work at the entry level is vital for that to happen. As a publisher and art director, Alec commissions young people to tell stories about navigating the world of work and as an educator he teaches students the business and entrepreneurial skills that stop them being exploited.
