Brookes Creative recently had the honour of meeting American television writer, producer and educator, Jeff Melvoin, at Oxford Brookes University for a Masterclass on “Showrunning for TV in the US and UK”.
Jeff Melvoin is known in the film industry for writing and producing TV Shows, such as Designated Survivor (2017-18); Killing Eve (2020); Northern Exposure (1991-95); Remington Steele (1985-86); Alias (2005) and many more. He has experience working in both the United States of America, as well as in the United Kingdom, which made for an extremely interesting talk with OBU students and staff to understand the key aspects and differences of both industries.
Melvoin also shared his knowledge on showrunning. He explained what showrunning is, the role’s history, the job’s description, and even what a normal day in his life is like.
The masterclass took place in the JHB Main Lecture Theatre and lasted around 2 hours. The full recorded MasterClass is available on the Brookes Creative Youtube Channel .

This poster was put up around the Oxford Brookes University campus two weeks before the event, to advertise for it and have as many people possible come along.
The Masterclass was massively successful considering the interesting talk Jeff Melvoin gave and the amount of students and staff in the audience that wanted to ask questions during the Q&A moment we reserved time for after the talk was finished.
