Alamelu

Hi! I’m Alamelu, a visual artist and educator from India and have recently completed my Master’s in Fine Art at Brookes. My work is inspired by life experiences, the complexities of human nature, concepts related to society’s changes, language, nostalgia, and memory.

In order to diversify and expand my practice, I have experimented and explored interdisciplinary fields. I enjoy challenging myself to push my creative boundaries, which led me to discover that I’m ambidextrous.

I have held two solo exhibitions and numerous group shows, and my works are in collections around the world. Over the last 7 years, I have completed several commissioned paintings and projects, collaborated with architects and interior designers, produced fundraising exhibitions, illustrated books, painted large scale murals, created graphic design projects, and worked on community art projects.

I am equally passionate about teaching, and have created and taught several courses for different age groups, apart from guest lectures. In my experience as an art educator, teaching art to students (and more importantly, teaching them to think) has a profound impact on society and culture. Through my courses and workshops, I hope to develop my students’ critical thinking skills as well as their technical skills. I am committed to improving art education to make it more inclusive and accessible for all.

Through my role at Brookes Creative, I hope to help bridge the gap between being an art student and sustaining a career in the arts, something that I have always struggled with as a freelancer myself.
